Plans go astray

Bern, Switzerland
Monday, July 3, 2006

We had intended having an early start - dropping the bike back at Thun then getting a train to Trier to meet up with Naomi. However, when I spoke to her she had changed her plans and had to return to England immediately. We then reverted back to plan A which had been to fly to Amsterdam on Tuesday - so we now had a spare day to twiddle our thumbs.

I took the bike back to Thun and caught a train back to Bern, saying goodbye to my beautiful mountains and valleys and passes. I was really really sad that this part of our trip is over and even though we will be getting another bike in England, it just won't be the same.

The BOSS spent the morning packing our helmets, jackets, panniers and spare clothes into a huge box ready to send back to England. We put the box on the trolley and carted it into town to the Post office, then went shopping - a luxury we haven't had time to do for quite a while. The BOSS finally found a pair of jeans she likes and we looked at mobiles to replace the one we "lost" in Budapest.

Later that evening we met up with Sabine and her friend Eva and a Canadian girl who is also staying with Sabine. We had a sumptuous dinner at a Greek restaurant beside the Aare River - on a spectacularly warm summer evening. Farewell Switzerland - I shall return.
