Epic Day! 600km on dead straight boring roads in 44 degree heat!

Day started with the colony of cockatoos who live in the trees at the caravan park deciding to wake the entire campsite at 5am!
Can't fight that - so got up, had brekkie, decamped and was on the road by 7.30. The good thing about getting away so early is that the Grey Nomads are still asleep. There was no one at all on the road but as the day warmed up, the motorcycles started to catch up with me and overtake me.

The whole day was just a tedious dreary slog interspersed with petrol stops. You have to top up every 100km or so because you just don't know where the next petrol station will be. And the day just got hotter and hotter. By the third or fourth stop, I could strip off gloves, jacket and helmet in under 30 seconds. Each stop I would drench my t-shirt, neck sock and hair in cold water but it would all be bone dry again 30kms down the road. At one stage I got held up by roadworks and there was just no shade to retreat to... by the time they let us through I was nearly ready to faint. Not a good idea in the middle of the outback.

This was when I discovered Powerade drinks - I wonder if you can OD on these drinks coz I had about 4 of them in 3 hours. I couldn't eat - I really don't feel like eating when riding and especially when it's so hot.

I got into Nyngan about 5pm and decided to treat myself to a motel. Damned expensive but loving the aircon!
