Mildura Houseboat Day 1
The reason why 4000 bikers have descended upon Mildura is the Ulysses Club AGM. It is a week long gathering of over 40's motorcycle riders "growing old disgracefully".
Brian went off early to do volunteer duty at the AGM site. Frosty and I packed up and went for breakfast in town. Found a parking space near the mall then realised we are in Victoria so we could have just parked on the footpath. I went in search of – and found – the perfect bag for the back seat of the bike. It is long and low and fits all the camping gear so I can now ditch the big cumbersome monster and repack the bike properly. We met up with Brian again and headed off to board the boat. Oh WOW – what a beauty! The biggest boat I have ever navigated was a narrow boat on the English canals. This is gonna be a very steep learning curve.
Tony and Jeanette were already onboard and we soon unpacked the bikes and settled in to 4 days of luxury. This is a seriously well equipped houseboat, with a spa on the poop deck, TV in every room, well stocked kitchen with cappuccino machine and space aged toaster.
We all headed back into town to get essential supplies – grog and chocolate – then returned to the boat to enjoy a blissful afternoon. We stayed in the marina because Leonie and Brian2 were not due till late afternoon but I am anxious to get this baby out on the Murray to see what she can do.
That evening we joined our fellow Ulyssians on a paddle steamer for a dinner cruise up the river. It was very pleasant and the river is stunning at night with long reflections on the still water.
